NATIONAL SMOOTHIE DAY 

Do you love slurping up thick, creamy, and deliciously fruity smoothies? If so, get ready to celebrate one of the most refreshing days of the year – National Smoothie Day! On June 21st, people all around the country blend up their favorite fruits, veggies, and other tasty ingredients to create smooth, sippable treats. Whether you like your smoothies packed with tropical flavors like pineapple and mango or prefer a chocolatey, peanut-buttery delight, this is the day to whip out your blender and get sipping. So grab some fresh produce, and your favorite mix-ins, and get ready to learn all about this lip-smacking holiday!

 

Here are some of my favorite smoothies. 

Peach and Raspberry Smoothie

1 SERVING

1 cup frozen unsweetened raspberries

¾ cup chopped fresh peach

¼ cup vanilla yogurt

Place all ingredients in the blender and blend until smooth. Serve immediately.

Strawberry and Banana Smoothie 

1 SERVING

1 banana

½ cup vanilla yogurt

¾ cup frozen strawberries

Place all ingredients in the blender and blend until smooth. Serve immediately.

Mix Berry Smoothie 

1 SERVING

¾ cup  blueberries 

½ cup raspberries 

¼ cup blackberries or black raspberries 

½ cup vanilla yogurt 

Place all ingredients in the blender and blend until smooth. Serve immediately.

History of National Smoothie Day 

​​In the 1960s, Steve Kuhnau got creative with his soda-jerk experience and started mixing smoothies. Being lactose intolerant, Kuhnau whipped up tasty drinks using fruit juices, veggies, protein powder, and vitamins so he could enjoy his blends without discomfort.

Types of smoothies 

Green smoothie

A green smoothie is a special kind of smoothie that’s packed with healthy stuff! It’s usually about half-green veggies – things like spinach, kale, or broccoli. The other half is mostly fruit. This combo makes the smoothie look green (that’s why it’s called a green smoothie!) and tastes yummy. Some green veggies can taste a bit bitter, but mixing them with sweet fruits makes the smoothie taste great. Green smoothies are a sneaky way to eat more veggies and they’re super good for you!

Protein smoothie

A protein smoothie is like a super-powered drink! It’s made by blending water or milk with special protein powder, plus fruits and veggies. You can drink it anytime, and it’s great for growing kids who need extra protein to build strong muscles. The beneficial thing about protein smoothies is that the fruits and vegetables make the protein powder taste way better, while also adding more vitamins and minerals. On its own, protein powder can taste a bit like chalk. But when you mix it with fruits in a smoothie, it becomes delicious! So you get all the good stuff your body needs in a drink that actually tastes great.

Yogurt smoothie

A yogurt smoothie is a super creamy drink that’s good for you too! It’s made by blending yogurt with fruits and other ingredients. The yogurt makes the smoothie thick and smooth, and it also gives you protein to help your body grow strong. Some people like to use Greek yogurt because it’s extra thick and has even more good stuff for your body. Yogurt smoothies are like having a healthy milkshake – they taste great and make you feel great too!
